Madrid: Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has rubbished suggestions that star player Cristiano Ronaldo should be sold and cited underperforming show from his side as the reason for frustration among loyal fan base.
Ronaldo responded to jeers from sections of the Santiago Bernabeu crowd by hitting four goals in Real’ s 7-1 rout of Celta Vigo in their La Liga clash on Saturday.
“There are fans who want Ronaldo to be sold? Well I don’t and I’m the coach,” Zidane was quoted as saying by goal.com.
“As far as the whistles go, they did it to me too, to everyone. It’s not a question of one player in particular, it’s a fanbase that wants more from its players,” the Frenchman added.
“I see a full stadium and that means a lot. The fans are very important, they have always supported us. It is part of football that they are unhappy if things do not go well,” Zidane said ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League last-16 second-leg match against Roma.
With the win, Real are third in the league table, 12 points behind leaders Barcelona. ANI
