Kolkata: Renowned director BappadityaBandopadhya passed away in a privet hospital at the age of 45, just four days after the selection of ‘Sohra Bridge’ in the Panorama section of the International Film Festival.
On Saturday evening, he acceded to the third cardiac attack and kept in ventilation after a multiple organ failure.
As a campaigner of sovereign cinema the young director started his career in direction with ‘Sampradan’. Apart from that he had directed near 11 films which include ‘Kaal’, ‘KagojerBou’, ‘Nayika Sangbad’ etc.He had also directed Perizaad Zorabian and SumanRangathanan in 2006 film Devaki. The film was his only Hindi and English release.
He was thereceiver of Most Promising Director award for the year 2003 by the Bengal Film Journalist Association.
BuddhadebDasgupta, with whom Bappaditya started his carrer by assisting him said, “His father, writer DebasishBandopadhyay, was my friend. I know Bappa since his youth. He has assisted me in quite a few films before he started directing on his own. Unlike many young directors who compromise with their vision, Bappa never did that. That’s something many ought to learn from him.” He is survived by his parents and brother.
