Kolkata: The Centre’s decision to give Y-category security to tainted chit fund scam accused Shankudeb Panda has created ripples in the state BJP unit.
According to reports, two CRPF officials had visited the state BJP office and contacted Panda to work out the nitty-gritties. What has surprised the state BJP leaders is that the former Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) president whose name cropped up in various chit fund investigations and even in the Narada sting operation was being inducted in BJP.
Y-category has a security cover of 11 personnel (including one or two commandos) plus police personnel.
Even state BJP president Dilip Ghosh and Subrata Chatterjee did not know about the development. This happened suddenly in New Delhi without the knowledge of the top state BJP leadership. But now, providing Y-category security to Panda is causing great resentment among the senior members of the party.
Recently, when the state government introduced the online admission system in colleges across the state, Panda as the TMCP president had raised massive hue and cry and stalled the process.
Allegations were raised about extortion of money from students for the purpose of admission.
