Wrestler Bajrang Punia Wins India’s First Gold In Asian Games

Jakarta: Bajrang Punia won India’s first gold in the Asian Games 2018 by defeating
Takatani Daichi of Japan in the men’s 65 kg freestyle title bout to claim the top
honours. Bajrang beat Daichi 11-8 in the summit clash.

The 24-year-old Bajrang had won three consecutive gold medals – Commonwealth Games in 2018 in Gold Coast, Tbilisi Grand Prix in Georgia and Yasar Dogu International
in Istanbul — ahead of the Asian Games.

Bajrang also won bronze medal at Asian Championship in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan earlier
this year.

Bajrang defeated Khasanov Sirojiddin of Uzbekistan, Fayziev Abdulqosim of Tajikistan) and Batchuluun Batmagnai of Mongolia to enter the final.
