Women hacked to death for practicing witchcraft

Ranchi: Superstition seems to be on high in Jharkhand with villagers killing five women for allegedly practicing ‘witchcraft’ at Kanjia village in Ranchi district.

According to Police, a group of villagers used lathis and sharp weapons and killed the women at around midnight suspecting them of practicing witchcraft. The bodies of the five women were recovered on Friday.

Jharkhand accounted for 54 out of 160 cases of murders where women were branded witches and killed in 2013 and a total of 400 women have been murdered with the same motive since 2001 in the state.
