Murshidabad: A woman was stabbed to death for protesting her 15-year-old daughter’s rape in Raghunathpur area in Murshidabad district of Bengal.
Five goons allegedly tried to abduct the minor in the absence of her parents from her residence and attempted to rape her. Fatema Bibi (36) when tried to protest, was brutally stabbed to death by a sharp weapon.
“They broke inside our house and tried to abduct my daughter but when her mother meddled, she was stabbed by the goons. I was in Kolkata where I work as a cook,” says Sabiruddin Sheikh, husband of the deceased.
Fatema was rushed to the Jangipur hospital where she was declared brought dead. A complaint was lodged in the Samsherganj police station and a probe has been initiated by the district police.
Although the 7th standard student could identify one of the goons, she claimed that she didn’t know them very well. Following the incident, the Women’s Cultural Committee took to the street to protest the killing by taking out a rally and later submitted a deputation to the Superintendent of Police of Murshidabad Mukesh Kumar demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
