Woman molested, set on fire by cops


Lucknow: A woman was allegedly molested and set on fire by cops in the police station on Monday evening and she died of 100 percent burn injuries. However police has claimed that she committed suicide on the premises of Kothi police station by setting herself on fire. The station house officer Ram sahib Yadav  and sub-inspector Akhilesh Rai have been suspended and cases have been registered against them.

The vicitim is an anganwadi worker and the mother of a local journalist. Her husband was arrested by police and when she went to the police station the policemen demanded Rupees one lakh. She returned back and again went there on Monday.

In her dying statement she had said that the policemen had demanded bribe from her on Sunday for releasing her husband and attempted to rape her on Monday following which they burnt her alive.

Barabanki Police Superintendent Abdul Hamid said, “The policemen misbehaved with her but didn’t set her on fire. They have been suspended.”
