Kolkata: A 32-year-old woman died on Sunday morning after giving birth to a baby at Baranagar Matri Sadan Hospital due to alleged medical negligence.
A resident of Baranagar’s Gopal Lal Thakur Road, Riya Ghosh was admitted to the municipal hospital on Friday. Ghosh’s family claimed her condition started deteriorating immediately after the delivery on Saturday evening. The doctors and nurses did not attend to her despite repeated appeal, alleged the family.

“She continued to bleed and had acute abdominal pain after delivery. She was lying unattended for a long time, which led to her death. Later, she was referred to RG Kar Hospital but it was too late. She died hours after we shifted her to RG Kar,” said the woman’s husband Sambhu Nath.
Dismissing the allegation, a senior doctor of the municipal hospital, Samir Sengupta, said they made all efforts to save her life.
Later, the woman’s family members and locals agitated inside the hospital and also tried to heckle the doctors. A team from Baranagar police station reached the spot to bring the situation under control. Local councillor of Baranagar municipality, Anjan Pal, said, “A probe will be conducted by the civic authorities in this connection. If the concerning doctors are found guilty, strict action will be taken.”
