Wire Snag Disrupts Up-Down Train Service


Kolkata: Train services were affected in various sections after an overhead wire collapsed in between Bidhannagar and Dum Dum station on Friday.

According to sources, the wire collapsed on ‘down’ line leading to the immediate disruption of local train services.

The Railways officials have rushed to the area. It is unclear as to when normalcy
will resume.

The passengers are in great difficulty as it is the time when the office gets over and all are going back home. Thousands of people are waiting at every station.

Railways PRO Ravi Mahapatra said, “The engineers are working. Up and down trains
are moving in one line. Normalcy will resume at 8 pm.”

On the other hand, works for installing automatic signal system is being started.
For this several trains in Sealdah-Ranaghat main sections has been cancelled from
Friday. As a result, the passengers were already in trouble. The system is being
set-up in between North 24 Parganas’ Barrackpore and Ichapur.

The East Railways cancelled 158 local trains from September 7 (Friday) to September
10 (Monday). The trains which were supposed to run through Sealdah-Ranaghat main
line from Friday 10 in the morning to Monday 10 in the morning were cancelled.

44 local trains including 22 up and 22 down were cancelled. 7 Barrackpore locals, 9
Naihati locals, 4 Kalyani border locals and one Ranaghat-Lalgola and one Dumdum-
Barrackpore were cancelled.
