Kolkata: West Bengal’s famous handloom brand Tantuja is set to go global with the online shopping portal Amazon-US deciding to market its saris and other products.
The Amazon India and Flipkart are already marketing the iconic Tantuja handloom saris for sometime. Tantuja, under the West Bengal State Handloom Weavers’ Cooperative Society, will work together with Amazon-US for overseas promotion and marketing of the products.
“Amazon-United States will sell tant sari. This is a new initiative which will promote and sell Tantuja’s products in the United States,” state MSME, handloom and textiles minister Swapan Debnath said.
So far, online marketing of the saris and other handloom products was restricted to the domestic market. Till recently Tantuja was passing through a severe financial crisis.
In order to add value to its products portfolio, Tantuja has invited weavers from Varanasi to work on its special ‘Benarasi’ saris.
Tantuja will continue to take the omni-channel marketing route for reaching out to customers.
