Darjeeling: In an attempt to ease the violence in Darjeeling, the administration authorities have reduced the Internet speed on Sunday. Social media is an essential and easiest medium to connect people with each other. To distract the connection in between the protestors the authority has reduced the internet speed.

The unrest in the hills still remains on Sunday. The GJM supporter has vandalized few government offices of Kalimpong.

On a similar incident the mobile internet services were suspended in the Kashmir Valley for several times as a precautionary measure to check rumour-mongering following protests at various places in the valley.

Army was deployed on June 8 in Darjeeling following the violent protest by Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) and its 12-hour strike against proposal to make Bengali language compulsory in government schools.

Two Army columns have been deployed in the town on the request of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to maintain law and order situation. Each column consists a officer, two JCOs and 40 jawans.

CM Banerjee On Saturday held high level meeting with members of Darjeeling dev boards, ADG Law and Order, DG Bengal Police, Chief Secy and Home Secy at the state secretariat, Nabanna.
