West Bengal EC Confirms Suspension of Vote Counting


Kolkata: The state Election commissioner Sushanta Ranjan Upadhay on Sunday confirmed that the vote counting for Bidhannagar, Bali and Asansol Municipal Corporation has been suspended for indefinite period.

The announcement came after West Bengal BJP president Rahul Sinha met the EC and reported to media that the counting has been suspended. The counting scheduled to be held on October 7 has been cancelled till further notice.

On the other hand counting of Panchayat by-polls of Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad will be held as per schedule.

The EC said that the decision was made following a huge outcry and immense violence reported during the poll in salt Lake, Bidhannagar, Asansol area balemd on ruling Trinamool goons.

The EC said that the commission will hear the allegation the opposition candidates and will examine the CCTV footages and media reports. The Commission however ruled out re-election and said no such decision has been discussed upon.
