WB’s First Safari Park to Open in Siliguri


Siliguri: The state’s first Safari Park to open in Siliguri, said sources. The first phase work of the Zoo is complete and it will be inaugurated by chief minister Mamata Banerjee on 21st January.

The foundation stone for opening this free Zoo was laid by Mamata Banerjee on 17th July 2014, 7 kilometers away from Siliguri in a 7 miles surrounded jungle. The Safari park of 297 hectares has been set up. The estimated expenditure for laying out the safari park was Rs. 230 Crores. Till now Rs. 27 Crores have been spent.

Till now many animals have been brought from Darjeeling zoo. Various Species of birds like Jungle Fowl, Silver Fazent, Sambar, Barking Deer, spotted Deer,Jungle cat have been brought. 60 deers have been brought from Maldah. The furious Rhino from mahananda Forest have been long brought and kept. Some bisons are also kept. Only animal left is the tiger. But he will be broght later as special attention has to be given to the tiger. North Bengal Development Minister Gautam Dev has said, They have arranged Bus services to take trips inside the Jungle. The Buses are completely sound proff and they have been brought from Indore. The cost for a jungle safari would be 50 rupees. The entrance cost would be 20 rupees.
