WB Panchayat Polls: TMC Worker Shot Dead In Kultali


Kultali: With the violence-hit panchayat polls underway in the state, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker Arif Gazi was shot dead in Kultali area of South 24 Parganas on Monday.

Since the polls began, violence has been reported across the entire state. While in the morning, there were reports of a BJP supporter injured after being stabbed by alleged TMC workers, an hour later there were reports of ballot papers thrown in a pond.

As the West Bengal panchayat election begins today, around 46,000 personnel of West Bengal Police have been deployed, besides a total of 12,000 Kolkata police, around 1500 security personnel from the state.

The rural polls began at 7 am today and will continue till 5 pm. 621 zilla parishads, 6157 panchayat samitis and 1,827 gram panchayats will go to polls. The counting of votes will be held on May 17.
