Jalpaiguri: Re-polling is being held on booth number 79 and 80 in Jalpaiguri’s Ambikanagar Village. Heavy police force has been deployed at the booths to ensure voting is held peacefully and smoothly.
The State Election Commission has announced repoll in two of the total 573 polling booths that went to re-polls on Wednesday.
“Repoll Of Re-polls” is rarely an event in the state’s electoral history. The results will be announced on Monday. Miscreants had snatched ballot papers in these two booths coming under the Fulbari gram panchayat of Jalpaiguri’s Rajganj.
The ruling Trinamool till the last counting on Friday gained an absolute majority in as many as 10 zilla parishads of the total 20 zilla parishads — North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Burdwan, West Burdwan, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Bankura, Hooghly, Jalpaiguri and South Dinajpur — where the Opposition couldn’t win a single zilla parishad seat.
However, Trinamool Congress (TMC) secretary general Partha Chatterjee on Friday thanked the people of the state for supporting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and said the panchayat election results showed that people voted for development.
