Kolkata: Though violence has marred the poll process in Bengal, Election to the three-tier panchayat system will be conducted across 20 districts of West Bengal on Monday amidst apprehensions over security preparedness in the state.
“I am appealing the people of Bengal not to trust over any fake news. Be Alert and Aware.. Earlier the fake news video triggerd trolled,” the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said while giving an interview in a regional channel.
Expressing concern over violence that gripped parts of Bengal, Banerjee has appealed for peace over the panchayat polls which will be held after few hours. She has assured that her administration is fully ready to tackle any kind of unpredictable situation.
The State Election Commission initially wanted to deploy one armed person in each of the 58,467 polling booths. Forces have also been sought from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha.
The polls will be the last major elections in the state before the next year’s Lok Sabha Polls. Polling will begin at 7am on Monday and end at 5pm. The counting will take place on May 17.
