Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said political parties should desist from spreading fake posters as part of their campaign for the coming panchayat polls.

Mamata Banerjee’s remarks came a day after the BJP drew flak from the ruling part for using a photograph of violence in Bangladesh in its election manifesto.

In a major embarrassment for the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) in West Bengal, the party’s panchayat election manifesto which released in Kolkata on Tuesday features images of violence from Bangladesh.

Earlier Trinamul secretary general Partha Chatterjee accused the opposition party for using fake photos to spread violence in the state.

As Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh and senior leader Mukul Roy had unveiled a manifesto on Tuesday. When asked why such images had been used, Ghosh said, “They represent the real state of affairs in West Bengal today and want to change that. Only the BJP can lead the transition from Afghanistan to Sonar Bangla.”
