Kolkata: Ripple of concern ran among the security establishment after police recovered a massive cache of arms and explosives from West Bengal’s Murshidabad and Birbhum districts ahead of the Assembly polls in the state.
Officials said 321.5 kg explosives have been seized during several raids in Murshidabad and 2099 fore arms have been recovered from Birbhum. The Election commission has issued stern orders for severe crackdown on anti-social elements which may interfere with the poll process.
Several persons have been reportedly arrested during these raids, said unverified reports.
West Bengal is going to the polls along with four other states in the next month. The polls in Bengal will be held in 6 phases and 6.5 crore voters ill decide the fates of hundreds of candidates. The Election Commission has sent 500 companies of Central forces to conduct a fair and peaceful election in he state.
