WB Govt Mulls ‘Special Squad’ To Tackle Mao Menace


Kolkata: One of the victims of Mao insurgency, the West Bengal police has decided to come up with a special squad to tackle the rising Mao menace in the state, said sources.

As per reports, the state police have chalked out a plan to crack whip on the Mao infested belt of East Midnapore, West Midnapor, Bankura and Purulia and is reportedly all set to form a squad under West Midnapore SP Bharati Ghosh.

The move came as the state is all set for the Assembly election. The Naxals have again started to gain foothold in the state after suffering a crushing blow as forces killed Mao leader Kishenji in Junglemahal.

The Maoists are believed to have set up training camps in the Bengal-Odisha border and in the adjacent state of Jharkhand. The resurgent in the Naxal activities has also been noticed by the Union Home Ministry which has issued an alert to to the state police over a possible attack.
