Surat: When the nation celebrating their best in this holi, this city running throgh water shortage and celebrating a dry holi. An acute water scarcity across Gujarat has taken the fun out of Holi festivities in the state this year.
With the government appealing to residents to save water amid a looming crisis, Holi get-togethers and parties planned by several clubs, social groups and residential societies have been put off.
Days after the civic body in Surat decided not to supply additional water to any area for Holi, the city has decided to celebrate a dry Holi. The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) instead implemented water cuts in areas such as Varachha, Udhna and central zones since the water level in Ukai dam has reduced. The water shortage has forced SMC authorities to appeal to people to not waste water during Holi celebrations.
In the past, SMC used to supply 200 MLD of extra water on Dhuleti so that people could bathe and do cleaning of their houses once the celebrations with colours were over.
