Raipur: A court in Chhattisgarh sentenced five accused in a four year old ‘Vyapam’ case to six year of imprisonment on Friday. Training its gun on arch rival BJP after the verdict, Congress demanded an CBI investigation of the case.
On June 19, 2011 medical entrance examination had been conducted in Chhattisgarh under ‘Vyapam’. Just two days before the examination, police raided a house in Bilaspur and recovered the question paper of the entrance exam.
A case against 72 medical aspirants had been registered of which 24 are still absconding. Later the cops busted an international racket involved in leaking he papers and arrested five people in this connection.
The five accused have been sentenced to 6 years of prison by a Raipur court on Friday. On the other hand the court also directed the DG of Chhattisgarh police to conduct a departmental enquiry against the police officers probing the scam citing anomalies in investigation.
The Vyapam scam has also rocked the Madhya Pradesh government as 49 people including the son of MP governor Ram Naresh Yadav also an accused in the scam have died mysteriously during the ongoing investigation.
