Volkswagen had showcased the new generation Tiguan at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2015. We had also reported that the new VW Tiguan was recently spotted testing on Indian roads. The Tiguan will be brought in as a CKD unit and will be assembled locally at Skoda’s plant in Aurangabad to keep costs in check.

The Tiguan will most probably be powered by the 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged four-cylinder petrol mill that produces 177bhp and 320Nm of torque. The diesel variant will get the 2.0-litre TDI motor that puts out 148bhp and 340Nm of torque. Volkswagen could offer a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG gearbox as transmission options with an AWD model also expected for India.

On the outside, the all-new Tiguan adopts Volkswagen’s clean and timeless design DNA. The MQB platform allows for a wider, lower stance, while the exterior design of sharper, stronger character lines, and LED lighting has already garnered several European design awards. The exterior design also enhances the Tiguan’s utility, from a 26-degree approach angle for off-roading to a lower lift-in height for the tailgate.

The new Volkswagen Tiguan gets Brighter than halogen or regular filament bulbs, available Bi-Xenon headlights, LED DRLs and Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS). The Tiguan will also come with Panoramic sunroof, Keyless access with push-button start, Leather seating surfaces, Heated front seats with leatherette seating surfaces and a 40/20/40-split folding, sliding rear seats. The VW Tiguan also gets 19″ alloy wheels with a split 5-spoke design.

The Tiguan is based on Volkswagen’s Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) architecture. The new Tiguan comes with a wheelbase of 2791mm, it measures 4704mm in length.

The new Volkswagen Tiguan will rival the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Chevrolet Trailblazer in India.

We expect the all new Volkswagen Tiguan to come for a base price of Rs 24 lakh (ex showroom, New Delhi) while the top end variant will come for around Rs 30 lakh (ex showroom, New Delhi).
