New Delhi: Vivo launched a slightly upgraded version of its existing V5 phone, the V5s, in India on Thursday. The Vivo V5s will be available for buying at a price of Rs18,990 starting from May 6 via both online and offline channels.

The Vivo V5s, just like the Vivo V5, focuses on camera and audio capabilities but brings in more storage to the table. The design is also, this time round, closer to the company’s flagship V5 Plus which was launched in January.

Which means that it looks a lot like the iPhone 7, especially from the behind. Sadly, the V5s doesn’t inherit the V5 Plus’ front dual camera system and ships with just one camera for selfies. Boasting of an all-metal unibody design, the V5s sports a fingerprint scanner on the rear which is claimed to unlock the phone in just 0.2 seconds. The fingerprint scanner on-board can also activate select apps “by swiping the screen down towards the fingerprint sensor.” The fingerprint reader is also said to be water-resistant, according to Vivo. The V5s further boasts of curved 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass on the front.

The V5s phone, just like the Vivo V5, comes with a 5.5-inch 720p display and is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6750 processor clubbed with 4GB RAM but 64GB of internal memory (the V5 came with just the 32GB storage) which is further expandable by up to 128GB via micro-SD card. The dual-SIM phone runs Android Marshmallow-based FuntouchOS which is Vivo’s custom user interface.

The user interface comes with features like Smart Split multi-tasking which as the name suggests allows for split-screen multitasking on supported apps. The phone also supports 4G LTE connectivity. On the camera front, the V5s, just like the Vivo V5, comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera with Phase Detection Autofocus and a 20-megapixel front-facing camera —  Sony IMX376 sensor — which is accompanied by a ‘moonlight’ flash.

In addition, the V5s comes with Vivo’s proprietary “AK4376 dedicated Hi-Fi audio chip which provides an unparalleled sound quality, giving a signal-to-noise ratio of up to 115dB” according to the company. The Vivo V5s is backed by a 3,000mAh battery. The V5s will be available in Matte Black and Crown Gold.
