Bolpur: The executive council of Visva-Bharati on Monday renewed the term of chancellor for Visva-Bharati for three years, facilitating the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the convocation and give away degrees on May 25.
At Monday’s meeting, the external members were absent and the officiating vice-chancellor Sabuj Kali Sen used her special power to renew the chancellor’s term by three years.
Visva-Bharati sources said the renewal of Modi’s chancellorship was important because he would visit Santiniketan to attend convocation on May 25. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will also share dais with Modi on the same day to inaugurate the newly-constructed Bangladesh Bhavana.
“Monday, the executive council renewed the chancellorship of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the next three years. As four out of five external members were absent at the meeting, I had to use my special power as VC to renew his chancellorship,” Sen said.
