Visuals Emerge Of Militants Gathered Around A Bonfire Before Shopian Ambush


Jammu: A chilling video purportedly of the terrorists behind Shopian ambush has surfaced. The attack resulted in the deaths of three Army jawans and a local woman.

The video, accessed from intelligence agencies, shows five gun-totting militants gathered around a bonfire with the song of ‘martyrdom’ playing I nthed banckground. The terrorsits have been identified by security forces as residents of the Pulwama and Shopian regions.

Clad in phirans and army fatigues, the group is seen warming their hands in front of a bonfire made of blocks of woods, with AK-47s slinging around  their necks.

According to sources, the militants involved in the Shopian attack have been identified as Zeenatul Islam from from Sugan, Shopian (Group Commander), Tariq Ahmad Bhat from Barbug, Shopian, Abid Manzoor Magray from Nowpora Payeen, Pulwama, Aasif Ahmad from Chiva Callan, Shopian and Showkat Peer from Trang, Shopian.

On the intervening night of February 22 and 23, a patrol party of the 44 Rashtriya Rifles came under heavy fire from Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists. The incident, in Shopian’s Chitragam, killed 3 Army personnel, a local woman and injured five others.

A Hzibul spokesperson, Burhan-ud-Din, called a Kashmir-based news agency and claimed responsibility for the attack. The caller hailed the Hizb squad that carried out the attack.

He went on to quote the terrorist organisation’s deputy chief, Peer Saifullah Khalid, and Mehmood Ghaznawi, a local commander, as having congratulated the squad for carrying out a successful attack on the Army patrol.

Security agencies believe that there are 250 terrorists in valley. At least half of them are Pakistan based. With winters waning and snow melting, intelligence agencies fear that Kashmir could be headed for another spell of unrest.
