New Delhi: Indian Cricket Captain Virat Kohli has been named ICC Cricketer of the Year 2017 and recipient of the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy. Not only this the ace skipper has also been named ICC ODI Player of the Year at the 2017.
Said a smiling Kohli,”I’m winning the Sir Garfield Sobers trophy and that’s a huge honour for me. It’s probably the biggest award that we have in world cricket. Two Indians getting it back to back makes it more special. Last time it was [R] Ashwin, this time I’m getting it.”
Smith spoke in similar glowing terms about his award: “It’s a great honour to win the Test player of the year award. It’s called Test cricket for a reason and I’ very humbled to win that award. I think I scored six hundreds in the year and more importantly it led the team to an Ashes victory which is something very important for me. I love playing Test cricket and its a game that challenges the skills and the mind the most.”
