Mumbai: For all those of you waiting for a glimpse of Anushka Sharma in Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet, here’s something for your ears only: The first song the film was released already, and as expected, its already creating quite a buzz in the virtual world.
The video features Anushka Sharma as a club singer crooning the Geeta Dutt iconic song, Jata Kaha Hai Deewane from Guru Dutt’s CID (1956). Recreating the ’60s, loud music and fast tempo add the perfect vintage to the song originally picturised on Waheeda Rehman.
Anushka plays Rosie Noronha, an aspiring Jazz singer in a nightclub, while Ranbir Kapoor plays a boxer Johnny Balraj. Bombay Velvet also marks the full-time acting debut of filmmaker Karan Johar who plays Kaizad Khambatta, a flamboyant and quick-witted Parsi media mogul, a negative character in the movie. Karan was earlier seen in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge in XYZ, apart a few other guest appearances in various films.
