Village Housewives Take Initiative To Support Tea Workers


Jalpaiguri: Village housewives have taken a remarkable initiative to collect funds and relief for the Tea workers who have been suffering from malnutrition and financial struggle since a long time, said Sources. The initiative has been taken by Housewives of Jalpaiguri’s Rajbari area on Sunday. They have also established an organization named ‘Mahila Kojon’.

On Sunday, the organization took the initiative and send Relief to Dooar’s Nagrakota’s closed Surendranagar tea garden. On Sunday morning the women from the organization took a truck filled with goodies to the tea garden. According to the organization, 250 blankets, cooking oil, salt, turmeric, soyabean, sugar, pulses and biscuit have been given.

Member of the organization, Kalpana Roy said, after seeing the condition of the tea gardens they have decided to provide financial help to the families. According to the present condition of the tea workers we know that the relief what we provided is insufficient. We have collected money from our locality and arranged for the relief. We want the tea gardens to function normally like before. A woman has given up half her salary for the initiative.
