Ahmedabad: Incumbent Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani will continue holding his post and Nitin Patel would remain as his deputy. The decision was taken at a crucial meeting of newly elected BJP MLAs in Gujarat with Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley.
Jaitley, the central observer for selection of the CM, announced that Rupani will lead the party in Gujarat. “Vijay Rupani chosen as Legislature party leader unanimously, Nitin Bhai Patel as the deputy Legislature party leader in a meeting today. Will inform you all about the swearing in soon,” said Jaitley.
He stated that Bhupendra Singh proposed these two names for top posts in the state and they were unanimously accepted by the House and there was no alternative proposal.
Earlier, Rupani had resigned as CM with his council of ministers on Thursday after the Governor O.P Kohli dissolved the assembly following the election results. BJP retained power in Gujarat after winning 99 seats in the 182-member Assembly.
