New Delhi: Beleaguered liquor baron Vijay Mallya apparently has a golden toilet in his manor. Author and associate professor at Lee Kuan Yew School, James Crabtree was quoted in an Economic Times report saying at an event in Mumbai that he got the opportunity to see the golden toilet himself when he visited Mallya at his London house.
The financial daily mentioned the author saying that he saw the golden toilet when he visited Mallya’s mansion located in Regent’s Park, London. When the author visited him, Mallya was apparently in a pensive mood as he was not able to fly to Monaco to watch the Monaco Grand Prix. The report mentioned that the author excused himself to use the washroom as Mallya poured himself his third whisky and this is how he discovered the golden toilet.
ET quoted the author saying, “Here I discovered this vision in shimmering gold. A gold toilet with a golden rim and gold on top. Sadly there was no golden toilet paper. But it did have monogrammed fluffy white towels.”
It may be noted that Vijay Mallya is accused of fraud and money laundering and — in what has been described by the prosecutor as ‘ squirrelling away’ the money that his Kingfisher Airlines had taken. He had fled the country in 2016 after defrauding a consortium of 17 banks to the tune of Rs 9,000 crore. Mallya however, has denied the allegations against him on multiple occasions. An extradition hearing began in December last year which is still ongoing.
