Ahmedabad: A BJP worker was on Tuesday detained after a video, purportedly showing him flashing a gun during the victory rally of a party candidate in local body polls in the district, went viral.

The video, which purportedly showed one Mehul Patil flashing his gun while aiming in the air during the victory rally of BJP leader Hitendrasinh Jadeja, who emerged a winner at Kanakpur Kandas municipality election, went viral on social media.
Police detained Mr Patil and brought him to Sachin police station but he was soon let go and no action was initiated against him after it emerged that the gun which he flashed was unloaded.

“Mr Patil was carrying two guns – an air gun and an air pistol – and both were empty. He pressed the trigger of the unloaded gun, which created a sound,” a Sachin police station officer said.

“We have noted down the incident in our station diary but no action was taken against Patil,” he said. BJP captured 107 out of 123 seats which went for polls in different parts of Gujarat.
