Kolkata: The security of the iconinc Victoria Memorial Hall in the city was handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
The Victoria Memorial Hall, a magnificent makrana marble edifice built between 1906-1921 by Lord Curzon in memory of Queen Victoria, is a museum under the union ministry of culture.
The Indian Museum is working towards deployment of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) security. However, with the initiative of museum director Rajesh Purohit, the staff have vacated the quarters. These will be converted into barracks for lodging of CISF jawans.
The museum authorities are yet to fix any deadline for the deployment. According to sources in the museum, there will be as many as 57 CISF jawans who will be taking charge of the security. This will entirely replace 49 personnel of a private agency and 3 ASI and 9 constables of Kolkata Police, who are presently in charge of the museum’s security.
