Phulbani: A VHP bandh disrupts normal life in Kandhamal on Saturday protesting against the ban on the entry of its leader Praveen Togadia to a sensitive district.
Most business establishments, banks and Petrol pumps remained closed during the whole day shut down in the tribal dominated district.
The educational institutions and emergency services functioned normally during the bandh while VHP activists staged demonstration at some places.
VHP has described the bandh as a success and the party’s east zone secretary Priyanath Sharma said that the bandh was observed in a peaceful manner against the administration over its decision to ban Togadia’s visit to the district terming it completely undemocratic.
Togadia was scheduled to address a public meeting at the district headquarters in Phulbani to mark the golden jubilee celebrations of VHP where his admission has been restricted by the administration.
Kandhamal SP KB Singh said, “After thorough assessment of the report on law and order situation in the sensitive district, the administration has decided to ban Togadia’s entry to the district.”
The step was taken as a precautionary measure after considering the sensitivity of the region and the history of the Kandhamal district.
