Veteran Singer Dwijen Mukhopadhyay Passes Away


Kolkata: Veteran singer Dwijen Mukhopadhyay, best known for his rendering of Rabindra Sangeet, passes away on Monday morning in Salt lake house.

Earlier, The 91-year-old singer admitted to the state-run tertiary healthcare facility, SSKM Hospital in the city, by his family due to fever and pain in the chest.

Mukhopadhyay, who was awarded Padma Bhushan by the Centre in 2010 and Banga Bhibhusan by the Bengal government in 2011, had returned home a few days ago after staying admitted at SSKM Hospital due to infection in the lung.

Dwijen Mukhopadhyay is an Indian composer and singer , who has been working in the field of music for the last six decades. He is an accomplished performer of Rabindrasangeet, Bengali basic songs, Bengali and Hindi film songs. He has recorded more than 1500 songs, of which about 800 are songs of Rabindranath Tagore. He has also directed music in Bengali feature films and composed music for popular Bengali basic songs.He died on 24th December,2018
