Vehicle Burnt, WBSEDCL Office Vandalised After Man’s Death


Kolkata: After a man died of electrocution, tension englufed Diamond Harbour area of South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal and the agitated crowd put a government vehicle to flames and also vandalised WBSEDCL office.

Locals alleged that the WBSEDCL workers came to look after the complaints of electricity theft in the area by hooking. The youth died of electrocution as the workers adopted a carefree approach and there was no proper awareness. They digged up the roads which led to the youth’s death after he came in contact with the electric wire.

The agitated mob then rushed to the local WBSEDCL electric office and vandalised it. They also torched a government vehicle. Electricity officiallys were severely injured when they tried to stop the crowd.

Police and Rapid Action Force teams then took control of the area and conducted lathicharge to remove the crowd. Power Minister Shobhan Chaterjee said anti-theft raid was not conducted. He condemned the unfortunate incident and vowed to look into it.
