Vaccine launched to prevent infant mortality in Assam

New Delhi: Assam rolls out the Pentavalent vaccine from Wednesday to prevent the infant mortality. Assam Health Minister Dr. Nazrul Islam launches the vaccination drive to prevent infant mortality in Guwahati.

Health officials in the state say that a single injection of the vaccine will fight five diseases including Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Hepatitis B and Meningitis.An extensive awareness drive has been launched across the state on the new vaccination drive.
ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers are involved in the awareness campaign.

According to the health data for the year 2012, Assam has 42 infant mortality rate per thousand live births.
