Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Unit of CPI (M) today suffered a huge set back with Veteran Party leader and Former Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan boycotting the ongoing party state conference Alappuzha.

The Former CM and present Leader of the opposition in the Vidhan Sabha had walked out of the party conference and returned to the capital after charges of breaking party discipline were leveled against him.

Party General Secretary Prakash Karat called Achuthanandan and persuaded him to attend the conference saying that boycotting the conference meant serious breach of Party discipline.

There have been rumours that he may quit the position of the leader of the opposition and he has decided not to attend the conference.

Senior politburo member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan made it clear that no one is above the party and said that the party is ready to hear about the problem of the veteran leader but he needs to attend the conference for that.

Karat was entrusted by the Politburo to convey the party’s stand to Achuthanandan. The CPI (M) and V S both are hardening their respective approaches and no sides are showing any signs of compromise.
