Kolkata: The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) is aiming at introducing a unit-area system of collecting property and water taxes from bulk consumers in New Town.
In the recent list of smart cities that the Centre disclosed, New Town ranked 30th and failed to make it to the top 20. However, state urban development minister Firhad Hakim hopes that New Town will feature in the second list.
Taking this in stride, the authorities are working full-time for quick implementation of the unit-area system. “The documents are on the process of being prepared,” said a NKDA official.
