Ukraine parliament votes to legalizes foreign mercenaries

Kiev: Ukraine’s Verkhovnaya Rada on Tuesday adopted in a second reading a draft law on foreigners serving in the country’s armed forces.

A total of 229 members of parliament supported the decision, Itar-Tass reported.

The legislation is aiming “at increasing the fighting efficiency of the armed forces and reducing human and financial costs, which are consequences of combat operations in Eastern Ukraine”, according to an explanatory note accompanying the bill.

If it comes into effect, Kiev expects to receive “several combat-ready, experienced and motivated units (of) up to 1,000 people”, the document says.
