Two Kennedy Airport Terminals Evacuated After Report of Gunshots


Albany: Two terminals at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport were evacuated after unconfirmed reports that shots were fired.

Police received reports of gunshots at Terminal 8 at about 9:30 p.m., according to an e-mailed statement from the the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Terminal 1 was closed at about 10:15 p.m. after similar reports and the Van Wyck Expressway was also shut down in the vicinity of the airport, the Port Authority said by e-mail.

American Airlines closed its ticket counter at JFK as a result of the incident and is working with local authorities, spokeswoman Victoria Lupica said by telephone. She had no additional information about the reports.

“Preliminary investigation does not indicate shots were fired at JFK,” the Port Authority said in a statement. “There are no injuries. At this time, no firearm, rounds or shell casings or other evidence of shots fired has been found. To be cautious, the terminal was evacuated.”
