Two Doctors To Take Part In Medical Council Elections: HC

Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has instructed the West Bengal Medical Council to
nominate names of two doctors in the ballot paper for its elections, who were
rejected from taking part.

Dr. Kunal Saha and Dr. Tripti Das had appeared to the court to seek permission to
compete in the council’s election as the West Bengal Medical Council was not
allowing them.

During the hearing on Monday, Dr. Kunal Saha said that he was not being allowed to
stand in the elections, unlawfully. He has blamed Dr. Nirmal Majhi for being
responsible for their nomination papers getting cancelled.

On the other hand, Tripti Das’ lawyer Srikant Dutta told the court that his client
has fulfilled all rules which are needed to file nomination. But due to unknown
reasons, his client is not being allowed to compete.

Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty wanted to know from West Bengal Medical Council’s
lawyer the reasons why the two doctors are not being allowed to compete.

Lawer Shaibalendu Bhowmick said that the doctors have made some mistakes while
filing the nomination papers. Secondly Dr. Kunal Saha is not the citizen of that
place. He also accused both the doctors of giving digital signatures for which
their nomination papers were cancelled.

However, rejecting West Bengal Medical Council’s decision, the HC has asked the
council to allow them to take part in the elections.
