Twin Tragedy: Kamayani, Janata Express Plunge Into River

07:19 am: As per recent reports the death toll has surged past to 20, with more than 100 people were injured. Delhi chief minister on his twitter account condoled the deaths. 04:50 am: As fresh reports are pouring in, sources confirmed that 15 people have been killed so far. Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has said that all possible steps are being initiated and the state government is working closely with the railway department to coordinate relief and rescue operations. 24 trains have been diverted to other route due to the accident. 04:25am: Relief work is severely handicapped due to adverse weather. The rain and weather condition is playing havock to the rescue operation. Relief has to be sent by train as the terrain is not approachable by road. So far 300 people have been rescued so far, while several feared dead.


03:05am: 10 bogies of Kamayani Express have derailed and have fallen into the river. Over 200 people have been rescued

Initial reports suggest that the accident has taken place on a bridge that had developed cracks due to the rise in the water level of the river. Heavy rainfall and bad weather also lead the rise in the water level.

3:00 am: Kamayani Express is a 26 coach train. 5-6 coaches have derailed and have fallen into a river. Rescue teams have been sent. Kamayani Express derailed at around 11:30 pm on Tuesday night.

Another train – Janata Express, coming from the opposite direction also derailed at the same spot. 2-3 bogies have derailed.

The weather is bad and there is heavy rainfall even now. The water level in the river is high, and the area is waterlogged.

The nearby roads are damaged. Even reaching the spot is a challenge.

Update 2:37 am: A special team with doctors and rescue personnel has been dispatched to the spot in another train. There are about 100 people on the relief train.There are 72 seats in a train's bogey. Bhopal: In a major mishap, two trains derailed at the same spot in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday night. Passenger trains Janata Express and Kamayani Express both derailed near the Kudawa railway station, about 20 kilometres from Harda in central Madhya Pradesh. Two people have so far been killed in the accident. The death toll may rise further.

A passenger trains have derailed in Madhya Pradesh, according to reports. Five bogies of the train have reportedly fallen into the Machak river.The Janata Express was travelling from Jabalp[ur to Mumbai when the accident took place.

The trains reportedly derailed near the Kudawa railway station, about 20 kilometres from Harda in central Madhya Pradesh. Reports suggest the derailment was caused by incessant rain when the train was crossing a bridge.

A special team with doctors and rescue personnel has been dispatched to the spot in another train. The Kamayani Express was travelling from Mumbai in Maharashtra to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.

Rail Minister Suresh Prabhu in his twitter account said that emergency services have been rushed to the spot and rescue efforts are going on. He also said that darkness and water are hindering the rescue process. So far 50 to 60 people have been pulled out of water.
