Tripal Talaq Case: SC Adjourns Hearing Till September 6

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned hearing in the Triple Talaq Case till September 6. The court observed that “issue of triple talaq has to be examined on the touchstone of constitutional framework and earlier verdicts.”

The apex court also asked all the respondents to frame legal issues concering the matter. Chief Justice of India also observed that it was a serious issue, ANI reported.

A number of Muslims have been demanding a ban on practice of Triple Talaq and terming it as ‘un-Islamic’. Many claim that the practice has been used by misinterpreting the Sharia law and Quran.

Muslim men can divorce their wives by just repeating the word Talaq thrice. The case against the practice came into highlights after one Shayra Banu challenged the personal law justice citing her fundamental rights.
