Kolkata: West Bengal CID arrested TMC leader Shristhidhar Mahato’s son Sandip Mahato on Saturday in connection with the murder of BJP worker Trilochan Mahato in Purulia.
The West Bengal CID also arrested another TMC worker – Uttam Pal, besides arresting Sandip. With this arrest, a total of four TMC workers have been put behind bars.
Earlier, The state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) made the first arrest in connection with the death of Trilochan Mahato, under Balarampur police station area in Purulia on June 30. Mahato’s body was found hanging from a tree at Supurdih village, a kilometer away from the village where he lived.
“We have arrested one Punjabi Mahato, a resident of Supurdih under Balarampur police station area in Purulia, after prolonged interrogation in connection with the murder of Trilochan Mahato,” a senior CID official said.
According to CID sources, Trilochan, who was a third year student of History honours in Balarampur College, was allegedly kidnapped on May 29 evening, when he was returning from Balarampur Hattala on his bicycle. His family members and the local police station conducted search throughout the night in all probable places. But their efforts went in vain.
