Tremors hit Andaman Islands, Tsunami alerts issued

Port Blair: Earthquake tremors measuring 5.3 on Richter scale rocked the Andaman and Nicober islands in the Bay of Bengal. The epicenter of the earthquake is 135 kilometres south-west of Port Blair, the capital of Andaman and Nicober Islands.

Following the earthquake Tsunami alert has been been issued in the coastal areas of the country. On the other hand, earthquake measuring 7.1 on Richter scale also rocked New Guinea following which Tsunami alert has been issued in the neighbouring areas.

Fresh earthquakes measuring 4.7 on richter scale was also reported in the wee hours of Friday morning in Assam.  The epicenter of the earthquake was Jorhat in the northeastern state, although no damage to life and property was reported following the quake.
