Mousumi Das, Kolkata: A year after the dreadful game ‘Blue Whale Challenge’, a game that claimed several teen lives across the globe, here comes another new fatal game the ‘Momo Challenge’. Similar in nature, it is yet another deadly challenge that targets the mentally vulnerable. Momo horror has recently spreads across the globe and in our state too. Several group of people have been receiving links and messages from an unknown number claiming to be Momo. People including students of different age groups, sleuth, politicians and techies have been targeted as off now. The CID has launched several warning guidelines to protect the citizens from falling in the trap of the Momo game challenge.
Alarmed by the recent reports of two persons allegedly committing suicide in North Bengal after receiving invitations to join online killer game ‘Momo Challenge’, the state administration has started taking precautionary steps to combat the threat. The ‘Momo’ account shares a series of challenges (read activities) that need to be completed to finally meet the ‘Momo’. Most of these tasks, according to reports, involve violent acts that end with suicide. If someone refuses to follow the instructions, the Momo intimidate them with dire consequences. Meanwhile, Cyber experts are warning people to avoid accepting any ‘invitation to play’ from an unknown number and to avoid clicking on any unidentified links.
Well, our Tollywood celebrities also have some important messages for their fans. As a role model for many they have come forward spreading awareness on this crucial issue. When Kolkata24x7 quizzed several Tolly-town celebrities about Momo challenge they expressed their concern on this affair.
Let’s check what they said:
The ‘Jarawa Jhumko’ fame Ankita Majumdar said that, “There is advantage and disadvantage of everything, so be careful before sharing any information on social media. I personally don’t open up with any stranger initially and block them if I don’t know them.” The actor will be soon seen in very popular daily soap ‘Bhoomikanya’.
Rahul Dev Bose
The assistant director turned popular TV actor Rahul Dev Bose while expressing his concern on the recent issue of MOMO challenge said, “Games like Momo and Blue whale encourage a disturbing trend in society where children are more susceptible to intimidation, fear and depressive tendency. The games that encourage self maiming and suicide are perverse and take advantage of a child’s vulnerability to derive a perverted sense of purpose in its existence. The basis of such games, a child’s vulnerability, principally is the same tenet on which pedophilia and child abuse remain active in our society. It’s also a warning sign for parents who need to be more careful with what exposure to the Internet parents allow their kids. A certain sense of maturity needs to develop in children mentally before they can be freely allowed to access the web, something which a 4g connection and smart-phones make far too easy for kids.” Rahul was seen playing a negative character in a very popular Bengali mega serial “Stree” and now he is seen in another new show ‘Bajlo Tomar Alor Benu’.
The new Tollywood sensation, ‘Drishyantar’ actor Vickey Deb state that, “Momo game would become an epidemic like ‘Blue Whale’ if we don’t take proper precautions and spread awareness. In a world where we have virtual friends more than real ones we tend to get attracted to something which increases our curiosity. Parents should keep a close watch on their children and if they notice any change in their behaviour should talk and find out the problem. We shouldn’t let virtual world ruin our life.”
Razwan Rabbani Sheikh
Popular TV show ‘Protidan’ actor Razwan Rabbani Sheikh said that, “We shouldn’t check all and every link on social media, as some links like Momo and Blue Whale can bring us across different fatal game challenges like these.
