Kolkata: A two-year-old boy was sexually assaulted allegedly at a playschool in Kolkata on Monday. His wails and blood-stained pants made his mother suspicious. His medical report confirmed the assault, police said.
According to the sources the incident may have occurred on Monday during a Doctors’ Day programme where students, teachers and other staff members played the roles of doctors and students. The victim’s mother said that when she went to pick him up from school, he was crying uncontrollably. She found blood stains on his clothes. She took him to a doctor and the child underwent a medical test at the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital, the doctor suggested that he undergoes examination at the SSKM Hospital to find out if he had been sexually assaulted.
The next morning, the parents went to the school and told the principal about the abuse. Jayashree Anand, the principal, denied the incident.“We asked her to show us the CCTV footage of the day and she said it would take two hours,” the child’s father said. “After two hours, she told us that due to some unknown reason there was no footage from June 27 to July 3.”
The parents have filed a complaint and the police have registered a First Information Report under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO). “We strongly demand immediate action by police to identify the culprit for this heinous crime and further demand speedy punishment for the offender according to law,” said Anirban Guhathakurta, the boy’s lawyer.
Last year, two incidents of sexual abuse at top Kolkata schools had stirred the government. While a four-year-old girl was sexually abused at Kolkata’s GD Birla School, another child from an equally reputed school was molested, not once but at least twice by school staff, her parents had said.
