TMC’s Derek O’Brien Reaches Residence Of Deceased Soldier


Chandigarh: Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien reached the residence of deceased ex-servicemam Ram Kishan Grewal in Bhiwani, Haryana on Thursday. Grewal, who was protesting at Jantar Mantar for implementation of One Rank One Pension (OROP), committed suicide on Tuesday over the government’s failure to act upon their demands.

Earlier on Wednesday, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, Congress VP Rahul Gandhi and other leaders were taken into custody by the police and later released when they tried to meet and talk with family of the deceased soldier.

Grewal’s cremation will take place at his hometown Bhiwani in Haryana on Thursday. Several senior leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal are expected to attend the cremation.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar also took cognizance of the matter on Wednesday and asked for details regarding the ex-serviceman’s suicide. The retired soldiers have been protesting at Jantar Mantar for over a year demanding implementation of OROP which was scrapped by Indira Gandhi government.
