Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress Chatra Parishad (TMCP) president’s position is
presently empty with Jaya Dutta removed from the post recently. She was removed
following the controversy over collection of money to grant admission in colleges.
Jaya Dutta was removed, but its state committee has not been dismantled yet. Jaya
had replaced Ashok Rudra in May 2016 as the president of the party’s students’
August 28 is TMCP’s founding day. Despite of no president, the party is making all
arrangements for its founding day. According to sources, chief minister Mamata
Banerjee is likely to announce the party leader’s name before the founding day.
A top TMC leader said, “The CM will go to the Vidhan Sabha on Friday. Apart from
her work, she will have discussions wil Education minister Partha Chatterjee too.
It can be presumed that she might give instructions to Partha then.”
According to sources, Ashok Rudra might return as the wing’s president. Within the
party, it has been discussed that young students will no more be given the
responsibility as they are unaware of the party’s history.
It needs mention that when Shankudeb Ponda was removed from the TMCP president’s
post, Ashok Rudra was given the responsibility for having experience. Hence, the
party wants Rudra back this time. The speculation of him getting the position has
risen after his meeting with the CM on July 20. The CM enquired about different
aspects of the party from him.
However, Ashok Rudra, did not clarify the speculation. But he said, “I will accept
Whatever responsibility the party gives me. I am just like a soldier in the party.
I am the CM’s path.”
On asking that how would he feel if he can return back to his old form, Ashok Rudra
said, “When did I become a former? I am in my form from the beginning only.”
