Howrah: Political violence continues in West Bengal with a local Trinamool Congress leader in Howrah District was shot dead my miscreants, police said today.
A 45-year-old Trinamool Congress worker was killed at Jagatballavpur in Howrah. He was missing from Thursday night and his body was found with several injury marks beside a waterbody on Friday.
Trinamool Congress workers in the area and his family members alleged that he was killed, allegedly by some BJP workers. They also lodged complaint against 18 people with the local police station.
The victim, Kartik Dhaki, went missing on Thursday night, after he went out to meet someone. His family members initiated a search for him as he didn’t return even at late night. But they couldn’t find him out.
The police sent the body for an autopsy and initiated a probe in this connection. Some local people saw the victim’s body near the waterbody early in the morning and informed his family members. The police were also informed.
Local people staged a demonstration protesting against the murder and also demanded arrest of the people involved in the incident as early as possible.
After preliminary investigation, the police feel that he was beaten up till he fell unconscious. The attackers then hit him on his head to ensure his death. The place where his body was found was cordoned off and police have collected samples to carry on with the investigation.
Last week Md Mohsin Khan, a Trinamool Congress booth level secretary in Bagnan area was returning home last night when the miscreants shot him dead at Haturia village in the district, according to reports.
On Sunday night, one person was killed and a number of people were injured in a political clash between supporters of two political parties in CoochBehar district.
As per reports, the clash took place at the Jamaldaha area of the district in which one person named Ramjan Mian was killed and many people were injured on Sunday late night. The police, however, did not specify the number of injured persons.
